From August 2012 to February 2013 we were privileged to have two International Social work students from Germany join our team. As part of their course practical they came to spend a semester as interns with us.
Having them here, even preparing for their arrival helped us to look critically at who we are, what we do and how we do it. In particular, it helped us restructure the way we do team and how we coordinate projects. They brought gifting, knowledge and insight different to ours. They came with questions, an openness to learn and a willingness to try just about anything. They were enthusiastic, energetic and innovative.
Together we worked out what kinds of structures and systems are important to begin to make a successful intern program. We are aware that any and each future intern experience will be different from this first one. But we are convinced that the intern program should and will continue, even grow.
In 2013 we were excited to have our first local intern. Lano, pictured here at a Kids Club interned with us January to December. He is still part of our volunteer team in Fisantekraal. You can read more about his year by clicking here.
