One of the main things we do as an organisation is training. We believe in finding ways to come along side communities and as much as possible to use experiential learning exercises to teach difficult concepts. We encourage the community we work in and the organisations we work with to guide us in the equipping they need. Then we adjust our existing programs, or write a new program, or we partner with others to facilitate training that meets the stated need.
We believe it is our mandate to equip the community with tools to support, care for and have fun with vulnerable children. However, we have come to learn, in our experience, that adults in poorer communities were often deprived of adequate childhood care themselves. So in the last few years we have worked on partnerships with organisations and individuals that have adult care as their focus. Two of these partnerships are with Philippi Trust SA and Abundant Life Ministries. Philippi Trust is a counselling training organisation that offers much needed specialised training for adults working with people infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.
One of the biggest hindrances to sustainable healing work with children in a community is the hurt and pain that adults carry from their own childhood experiences. Over the past few years we have been praying and dreaming about an adult support group and inner healing program that will help adults deal with their pain. We are excited that in January Doris and Frederick Kammies, from Youth With A Mission, will work with us in Fisantekraal. They will to do their Steps To Abundant Life Course, which is an inner healing course with our partner church’s leaders. The adults that go through this course are working with us in various capacities to help children in Fisantekraal. We are looking forward to helping grow a healing community in Fisantekraal.
